Allswell Mattress Review

Allswell is an online mattress and bedding brand owned by Walmart, making their mattresses great for shoppers on a budget. Noted as one of the best mattresses for kids, the Allswell features two layers of memory foam and pocket coils to help with motion transfer and breathability. This comprehensive review will cover the primary features of the Allswell, its materials, pros and cons, accessories, and personal recommendations for your sleep style.

The Allswell mattress is a bed in a box brand that specializes in making the best affordable mattresses that ship to your door for free. Allswell has three mattresses in its line, all of which are hybrid mattresses (a combination of memory foam and pocketed coils). Similar to other popular bed in a box brands, the Allswell ships to your door compressed and boxed. This makes it easy to set up the mattress in your home, though Allswell offers white glove delivery service as well.

Allswell’s most noticeable quality is its price. At less than a third of the cost of other hybrid mattresses, it promises luxurious comfort at an affordable price. In our Allswell mattress review, you’ll find out if Allswell delivers on their promise or if this hybrid mattress is too good to be true.

Allswell Mattress Features

Motion Isolation

The Allswell mattress is great at isolating motion, making this one of the best mattresses for couples. This means that when your partner tosses and turns at night, you won’t feel a disturbance on your side of the mattress. Due to its high scores for motion isolation, the Allswell is a great option for couples on a budget.

The Allswell scored a 9/10 in our Mattress Advisor tests for motion isolation, which is very impressive for a hybrid mattress. Hybrids contain springs, so they usually have more bounce and motion transfer.

The low motion transfer of this mattress is due to its memory foam top layer, which is quite firm. It prevents your body from sinking into the mattress too much and allows the springs to act as base support. The more pressure your body puts on the springs, the more motion will transfer throughout the mattress.

Mattress Advisor’s testing showed almost no motion transferred from one side of the bed to the other, but some slight motion was felt. You can expect less motion isolation from heavier sleepers, as the coils will need to do more of the support work.

Edge Support

Proper edge support ensures that the edges of your mattress don’t sink or sag when weight is applied. This is a big deal for stomach sleepers and side sleepers who sleep at the edge of the bed. It’s also important if you use the edge of your bed for sitting.

Allswell took edge support seriously when making their flagship mattress. They reinforced each side of the mattress with stronger, more resistant coils to bolster support. This makes a noticeable difference and guarantees the comfort and support of the mattress extends to its borders.

It should be noted that while the Allswell features exceptional edge support, its edges are only reinforced along the length of the mattress. The top and bottom of the mattress are not reinforced. So, if you sit at the end of your mattress, you won’t experience the same support.

Temperature Control

The Allswell scored an 8/10 for temperature control in Mattress Advisor’s tests. It provides above-average cooling comfort and is one of the best cooling mattresses at its price.

Hybrid mattresses tend to sleep cooler than foam beds because coils leave the mattress open to airflow. The Allswell goes a step further with its copper and graphite-infused gel memory foam layer. Copper and graphite pull heat away from the body and the memory foam gel traps it and diffuses it. The high density of the foam also prevents you from sinking in too much and trapping heat around your body.

Allswell’s quilted mattress top creates an extra inch of breathable space between the sleeper and the comfort layer. Quilting is excellent for breathability as it leaves a lot of open space between layers of fabric. Its 1” thickness also provides enough space above the memory foam for heat to escape.

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief is one of the most important functions of a mattress. It prevents pressure from building up in the joints and muscles, which can cause back pain and other problems.

The Allswell scored well in tests on pressure relief. Its base coil system and responsive memory foam support the body and prevent pressure points from becoming aggravated.

The upper back and neck of average-sized sleepers were properly aligned and supported, preventing pressure buildup. We noticed that the hips sunk into the mattress slightly, but not enough to cause serious pressure.

Average-sized sleepers and heavy sleepers can expect good support and pain-free mornings from the Allswell. But because this is a medium-firm mattress, lightweight sleepers might find it to be too firm, especially if they are side sleepers.

Great Price

The most attractive feature of the Allswell is certainly its price tag. The Allswell retails at just $345. Most other hybrid mattresses are priced well into the $1000 range. Even other bed-in-a-box hybrids cost much more.

The customer satisfaction rating for the Allswell is 4.8/5 (based on thousands of customer reviews), which indicates a very high level of value. The vast majority of customers are clearly thrilled with this mattress.

If you’re looking for a super durable mattress, the Allswell may not be for you. But for the price, it’s hard to beat. Plus, it comes with a 100-day sleep trial and a 10-year limited warranty, so budget shoppers can buy with peace of mind.

Allswell Mattress Materials

Allswell mattress inside layers

The Allswell mattress is composed of an innerspring layer of pocketed coils and a gel memory foam comfort layer. It’s topped with a thick quilted cover.

What’s Inside the Allswell Mattress?

Individually Wrapped Coils: The Allswell’s coil system provides responsive support to the base of the mattress and minimizes motion transfer.

  1. Perimeter Edge Support: High-resistance pocketed coils deliver bilateral edge support to prevent sagging and sinkage when pressure is applied to the edges of the mattress.
  2. Copper and Graphite Gel Memory Foam: CertiPUR-US® certified cooling gel memory foam brings light contouring support and good pressure relief while isolating motion.
  3. Signature Quilted Top: A quilted top adds plush comfort to the firmer layers below and improves breathability by maintaining space between the sleeper and the memory foam layer.

Compatible Foundations

The Allswell doesn’t require a particular type of foundation. It’s up to you to decide the height and function that you need from a mattress base. But, it’s important to keep in mind that if the base you choose doesn’t meet the standards of Allswell’s warranty, you may risk it being voided. Unfortunately, the warranty is not clear about these standards, but the Allswell website recommends a solid foundation with no signs of sagging. It’s always a good idea to use a new foundation with a new mattress. If you choose a slatted base, the slats should be 2”-3” apart.

The Allswell is compatible with the following mattress foundations:

  • Slatted Platform
  • Slatted Foundation
  • Box Spring
  • Bunkie Board with Box Spring
  • Adjustable Base

Sleeping Positions Best for Allswell

The Allswell mattress comes in just one firmness option and is not customizable (apart from size). While Allswell claims its mattress provides optimal comfort for everyone, we found the experience to differ somewhat between sleeping positions.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers are the most likely to have issues with the Allswell mattress. Side sleepers need a softer mattress so their hips and shoulders can sink in a bit more. This allows for optimal spine alignment and pressure relief. The Allswell is a medium-firm mattress (scoring around a 7/10 on the firmness scale) and may not provide enough give for side sleepers. Average and heavy side sleepers should find the mattress supportive, but lightweight side sleepers may need a softer mattress.

Want more options for this sleep position? Check out our guide to the best mattress for side sleepers.

Back Sleepers

The Allswell may be the best mattress for back sleepers at its price point. Its firm memory foam, responsive support coils, and pillowy quilted top provide the perfect support and plush comfort when sleeping supine.

Stomach Sleepers

The Allswell is a great choice for stomach sleepers. These sleepers need a firmer mattress that prevents their spine from bowing, and Allswell’s medium-firm comfort is up to the challenge. Stomach sleepers sleep hot more than others too, so the 1” quilted top and gel foam are extra beneficial.

Pros and Cons of the Allswell Mattress

Unbeatable value: It may be impossible to find a hybrid mattress of this quality at a price this good. In fact, it might be impossible to find another hybrid mattress at this price, period.

Some off-gassing odor: Allswell is a memory foam mattress type made with synthetic foam, so you may experience some off-gassing odors during the unboxing and decompressing of the mattress. These odors are not harmful should dissipate within a few hours.

Great motion isolation: Individually wrapped coils and firm memory foam work in tandem to eliminate nearly all motion transfer. This is a great mattress for couples and light sleepers.

May be too firm for some: Side sleepers and lightweight sleepers may find the mattress to be too firm. This can lead to aggravated pressure points and poor spinal alignment.

Reinforced edge support: The mattress remains supportive to its edges thanks to a row of extra-resistant wrapped coils.

Sub-standard warranty: The Allswell warranty doesn’t stack up to other mattress brands’ warranties. For example, standard warranties cover deterioration that causes a depression of 1” or more in the mattress. Allswell won’t repair or replace a mattress until 1.5” of sagging occurs.

Sleeps cool: Allswell went above and beyond to create an extra cool mattress. Materials like copper and graphite gel foam and a quilted top encourage airflow and diffuse heat.
