Chattam & Wells Mattress Review

Chattam & Wells is the luxury brand that falls under Spring Air. It started in 1996, then was absent from the market for several years until Spring Air decided to bring back the legacy of an American classic, after requests from customers in California. The rekindled demand was likely due to the end of the recession, leading to a rising desire for luxury goods once again. These well-crafted mattresses use high-density foams, premium latexes, and many natural materials and wools.

Type of Construction

Chattam & Wells mattresses are traditional innerspring constructions. Following Chattam & Wells' heritage of traditional craftsmanship, people in the USA put them together by hand, stitching the quilt and tufting the layers together.

Spring Air Mattress Collections - An Overview

Chattam & Wells Classic

The Classic Collection uses natural materials such as latex and wool and has a heavy-wire double offset coil design, which provides excellent contouring back support and motion transfer reduction. Nano coils near the surface add a buoyant layer that will gently cradle your body. Each bed features the signature Chattam Edge and Chattam Quilt.

Chattam & Wells Latex

The Latex Collection also uses latex and wool and features the Chattam Edge. For this collection, the Chattam Quilt uses GOTS certified fabric, meaning it is organic certified. It also includes a coir pad, which is natural and sustainable. The coir pad is made of coconut husk and latex, which provide a strong, yet flexible, ventilating core. These beds provide conforming body support with a wrapped coil system. Available in this collection is the Claremont model in Euro Top, Plush, and Firm.

This 100% natural Talalay latex is certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100. It conforms to your body for a plush feel that provides pressure relief and support. Latex is also antimicrobial, so it will be resistant to mold, mildew and dust mites, making for a healthier sleeping environment.

Nano Coil

These very small nano coils are near the surface of the mattress and provide a buoyant layer that gently contours to your body, cradling you throughout the night.

Joma Wool

Joma wool is shorn from crossbred sheep which freely roam in large farmlands in New Zealand. They are known for having very strong, clean and white wool due to climate, care, and expert farming practices. Each Joma wool fiber is individually crimped, which makes it act like a little spring. It's naturally resistant to flame, making it a safe bedding material. Joma wool is non-allergenic, temperature regulating, and very resilient.

Antimicrobial fibers are woven into the quilt to provide a healthier night of sleep. They are resistant to mold, mildew, and dust-mites, meaning they can be of great help to those suffering from allergies. The antimicrobial fibers will go a long way in maintaining a fresh and clean mattress, improving the nightly experience and extending the life of the mattress.

Chattam Quilt

This 4-way stretch knit fabric is made with Tencel, Joma wool, and high-density convoluted foam. It keeps your mattress comfortable and helps with temperature regulation.

Delivery Method

Chattam & Wells mattresses are available through several stores and online retailers. As these are more premium mattresses, delivery with in-home setup and removal of the old mattress is usually free.

More about Chattam & Wells

When Spring Air decided to bring back Chattam & Wells, due to the requests from Californian customers, they looked back into the heritage of the brand and decided to abide by the ideals of uncompromising authenticity. This meant setting out to craft an authentic luxury product with natural materials, high-quality foams, and traditional designs. They looked to other industries, like fashion and furniture, for inspiration. Furniture techniques were used to create a product that was built to last. The fashion industry inspired them to come up with unique ideas on styling the mattresses, which is where their signature crown emblem came in.

Conclusion

Chattam & Wells is a luxury brand with mattresses ranging from about $2,000 to $4,000. These traditionally crafted, high-end mattresses use natural materials such as Joma wool and 100% natural Talalay latex, along with premium foams. The layers are hand-tufted together so the materials will not migrate or bunch together, providing consistent comfort over the entire sleep surface and lengthening the life of these mattresses. Chattam & Wells beds performed well in our pressure tests for all body sizes and sleeper-types, so they're very effective at reducing pain points. These mattresses also have minimal motion transfer, so couples will not disturb each other throughout the night.

These innerspring mattresses are built well to be durable and comfortable. The coil systems work to support the back and provide proper spinal alignment. Each mattress comes with a 10-year warranty and can be exchanged within 120 days. I would recommend Chattam & Wells mattresses to those looking for a well-made luxury mattress.
