Guest Bedroom Mattress Recommendations

The Best Mattress for a Guest Room

Shopping for a mattress for your guest bedroom might seem like a daunting task. You want to make sure your guests are comfortable and knowing that everyone has unique comfort preferences, you may find it difficult to determine what kind of mattress to get. Remember that your guest room is used sporadically, so you shouldn't invest in a high-end mattress. Durability isn't a huge concern since guest bedroom mattresses aren't subjected to the same daily wear and tear as one that's used in a master bedroom.

As far as comfort, it is usually best to play it safe and select something with a medium comfort (5-6 on our Comfort Scale). This ensures that your guests won't end up with comfort on the opposite side of the spectrum from what they prefer. The closer the mattress is to a 5.5 on our Comfort Scale, the wider the demographic of sleepers it will work for making it the best guest room mattress. If anything, it's probably safer to err towards the soft side if you have to go one way or the other.

Some exceptions might be if you have a few guests you are expecting to stay often. For example, if your parents who enjoy a very firm mattress stay over multiple times a year for multiple nights, you may want to skew the comfort a few points in that direction.

Bigger Is Better

When determining the size of a guest bed, you may again want to consider who you plan to be staying with you. Couples? Individuals? Families? But generally, to play it safe, a Queen size bed is a good option. Queen size beds will be spacious for single sleepers, but also accommodate couples. It's better to ask a single sleeper to enjoy a spacious Queen size than ask a couple to squeeze onto a Full. Queen sizes are also usually the most cost-effective size, so you won't be spending a lot extra on that upgrade, especially with a cost-effective guest mattress. A King size is probably not necessary, but again, consider who you plan on accommodating.
