Pressure Test Results

We pressure tested the Cooper Mountain IV Firm mattress with small/petite, average and big/large body size people on their sides and on their back sleeping positions to measure the support and comfort.

The Cooper Mountain IV Firm tested well for back sleepers. It did not test well for side sleepers, which is common for such a firm mattress. Our test looks at comfortability and support. It does show really good support overall, and back sleepers got good contouring and pressure relief. So if you know you love a firm feel, that's the most important thing to consider.

Conclusion

The Sealy Response Cooper Mountain IV Firm mattress is an extra firm bed that works well for back sleepers. It's at the high end of the Sealy “Performance Line” collection, just below the “Premium” line. For something so firm, it performed very well for back sleepers in our pressure testing, showing great support and actually some decent pressure relief. The encased coil system is able to provide that precise support because the coils move independently, which also helps with contouring for better pressure relief. And the SealyCool Gel Memory Foam in the center third gives essential support to the lower back, at the heaviest area of the body, which keeps your spine in good alignment. It is very firm though, so side sleepers will experience too much pressure on their shoulders and hips.

For sleep partners, two of the features will really enhance your night: the edge support and the encased coil system. The DuraFlex Edge ensures that you'll feel comfortable sleeping all the way up to the edge, giving you more space, especially nice if sharing a queen. And the encased coils minimize motion transfer, so your partner won't wake you up with their movements.

I'd recommend the Cooper Mountain IV Firm to anyone who loves a very firm bed, especially back sleepers. It's of good quality and will last for years, providing good support.
