TempurPedic Cloud Luxe Review

The TEMPUR-Cloud Luxe is a super soft mattress that’s rated well for most sleepers in our testing (see our testing details below.) It’s the top model in the Cloud Collection (there are a couple more with the Breeze feature.)

Comfort Scale Rating

The Cloud Luxe mattress has a very soft feeling; we rate it 8 on our 10 point Comfort Scale (a 1 is hard, 10 is softest.)

Pressure Test Results

We’ve pressure tested the Cloud Luxe mattress with different body sizes and sleeping positions to see what kind of support and comfort you can expect. (Learn how we test.) It tested well, except for large people who sleep on their sides. That body size/sleeping position has a lot of pressure at the shoulder in particular, and a lot of pressure can be uncomfortable and interrupt sleep.

More about Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic created the memory foam mattress category here in the U.S. Founded in 1992, they continually grew until they became a household name and large enough to buy the Sealy Mattress Company. They’re now a public company called Tempur-Sealy and sell mattresses worldwide.

There are 2 important points of differentiation vs other foam mattresses. First, Tempur-Pedic actually designs and manufactures their foam components and mattresses. This speaks to their degree of expertise (most foam mattress brands buy components from suppliers).

Secondly, Tempur-Pedic has always created premium products. As in any industry, there are companies that make cheaper priced, lower quality products, and those that make higher quality, higher priced products. Tempur-Pedic has always made higher quality mattresses using premium materials and manufacturing standards. The success of their mattresses, and long running reputation for quality, propelled their company to be the largest in the world.

Outside of the Breeze models, the Cloud Luxe is the top of the line in the Cloud Collection. With that comes the high price too, at $3,799 queen and $4,499 king size for the mattress (without the foundation or base.) You are probably paying for the extra TEMPUR-ES material which is the super soft foam that makes the mattress a very soft 8 on our Comfort Scale.

The mattress scored well in our testing except for large side sleepers. So for large side sleepers we do not recommend it. For everybody else, it’s pretty good, especially small or large back sleepers (they get our recommendation.) While it’s expensive, it will be made to higher quality standards coming from Tempur-Pedic. They have maintained high customer ratings over many years from trusted 3rd party rating organizations like JD Power.
