Tempur-Pedic Flex Mattress Reviews

The Tempur-Pedic Flex Collection is made up of 2 medium feeling mattresses. However, please note that Tempur-Pedic is changing their models and only the Flex Supreme Breeze model will continue into 2019.  The other Flex-Elite model will be discontinued in December, 2018.  Both of these mattresses are half springs and half memory foam.

Tempur-Pedic Collections

The Flex Collection is one of 3 Collections from Tempur-Pedic. You can view all the collection comparisons and details.

  1. Breeze (including extra cooling technology)
  2. LUXE and ELITE (premium level – these collections discontinue in January, 2019)
  3. LuxeAdapt (premium level, new materials, advanced pressure relief-plus)
  4. PRO ADAPT (new materials, advanced pressure relief)
  5. ADAPT (original materials, pressure relief)

Type of Construction

Flex mattresses are Hybrid memory foam & innerspring beds. These 2 beds are made with different combinations of “Tempur” proprietary foams. Since Tempur-Pedic makes their own foams, they keep the formulations a secret and the exact composition is not public.

Tempur-Pedic's Flex Collection - An Overview

About Flex beds: Tempur-Pedic Flex mattresses are medium feeling, Hybrid foam/innerspring mattresses. The top half of the mattresses are made of memory foams and these foams achieve a medium feel – not too hard or soft. These foams include TEMPUR ES (extra soft) material, and TEMPUR Response material. With our 10 point Comfort Scale rating system (10 is softest) these beds rate from 4.5 to 6.5. Since they are medium feeling, they’re good for all sleeping positions; back, side or stomach sleepers.

The Flex Supreme Breeze incorporates a special upper layer and cover infusing PureCool technology to help keep the bed cool.

Delivery Method

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are sold in stores and also directly from Tempur-Pedic. They’re heavy mattresses and usually delivered by a retailer’s delivery team. In-home delivery is usually free, and so is removal of your old mattress.

More about Tempur-Pedic Brand

Tempur-Pedic created the memory foam mattress category here in the U.S. Founded in 1992, they continually grew until they became a household name and large enough to buy the Sealy Mattress Company. They’re now a public company called Tempur-Sealy and sell mattresses worldwide.

There are 2 important points of differentiation vs other foam mattresses. First, Tempur-Pedic actually designs and manufactures their foam components and mattresses. This speaks to their degree of expertise (most foam mattress brands buy components from suppliers).

Secondly, Tempur-Pedic has always created premium products. As in any industry, there are companies that make cheaper priced, lower quality products, and those that make higher quality, higher priced products. Tempur-Pedic has always made higher quality mattresses using premium materials and manufacturing standards. The success of their mattresses, and long running reputation for quality, propelled their company to be the largest in the world.

Conclusion

Tempur-Pedic Flex mattresses are good for most sleepers; (1) they’re medium in how they feel and (2) are hybrid memory foam/innerspring beds that have the best of both worlds.

The hybrid design minimizes the sinking feeling that bothers some people in all-foam beds. While they’re more expensive than most comparable mattresses, what you get is trust that they’re made with high quality materials and workmanship. And they come from a reputable company that’s been making them for over 25 years and has millions of customers.

There are no particular drawbacks on these beds except for the things typical in all memory foam beds; they can sleep hot, have an initial foam smell, take a few weeks to break in, etc. As mentioned, the hybrid design minimizes the sinking complaint in all-foam beds, and the Breeze model also helps against it getting too hot.

In our testing, the Flex Supreme Breeze performed much better than the Flex Elite, so we’d recommend that bed between them.  And as we noted at the top of the review, the non-Breeze model is going away in January, 2019, so if that's the bed you want you need to get it before then.  The Flex Breeze model will continue and become part of a new Luxe Breeze collection of beds.
