Materials Used to Construct Vispring Mattresses

A bespoke bed by Vispring is a guarantee of supreme luxury and untroubled sleep. For over a century, they've been refining the subtle art of pairing the perfect combination of spring size, tension, and resilience with the finest materials nature has to offer.

Wool

Vispring is the only bed maker to use 100% Platinum Certified British fleece wool which is regarded as the best in the world. It's sourced from the Shetland Isles and locally acquired Devonshire fleeces. Wool is the ideal filling for a mattress because of its hypoallergenic nature and breathability.

Bamboo

Vispring sources its bamboo fiber in China. An eminently sustainable resource, it's also soft and exceptionally absorbent. It wicks away moisture to ensure that you wake fully refreshed. Bamboo is another all-natural material that is highly-sustainable as it grows prodigiously in Asia.

Cotton

The Turkish long-fiber cotton used by Vispring is incredibly soft and durable, with an unparalleled sheen.  Highly absorbent and naturally breathable, it's uniquely hygienic, wicking away moisture to preserve your comfort throughout the night.  Cotton is one of the most common natural materials used in bedding currently.

Vicuña

Vicuña wool is absorbent, has excellent insulating properties, and, being free of lanolin, is also hypoallergenic.  Vispring selects these long, lustrous fibers for their warmth, their beauty, and their delicious softness.  The Vicuña is an animal similar to a llama that roams freely in the Andes mountains of South America. 

Mohair

One of the oldest textile fibers in use today, Mohair is a luxurious material made from the hair of the Angora goat.  Vispring sources it from the Karoo National Park in South Africa, a spectacular expanse of semi-desert and grassland that produces the finest mohair in the world. Mohair is prized for its durability, resilience, and the extraordinarily soft feel it offers.

Cashmere

Eight times warmer than sheep’s wool yet significantly lighter, this long silky fiber is produced from the soft under-fleece of the Cashmere goat.  It's collected in China during the spring moulting season when the goats naturally shed their winter coat. It has excellent insulating properties and contributed to each mattress's softness and comfort.

Silk

The strongest natural fiber known to man, silk has been highly prized since ancient times. The silk that graces Vispring beds comes from China, the gateway to the ancient Silk Road.  Silk offers a naturally luxurious bedtime experience, adapting to ambient temperature to provide coolness in summer, warmth in winter and distinctive smoothness all year round.

Horsetail

The finest quality is European horsetail, untwisted by hand to preserve the fiber’s natural resilience and the open structure that facilitates air circulation.  Adding horsetail to a bed is like giving it two million extra springs: the fiber bounces back after compression to restore your mattress’s shape after a restful night’s sleep.

Vanadium Steel

Vispring produces all their own springs from the best Vanadium steel, an extremely tough steel that was once famously used to make Ford Model T automobiles. You may specify your preferred spring tension to ensure a perfect bed when ordering your custom-made Vispring mattress.

Delivery Method

Vispring mattresses are sold both in stores and online. They’re built exclusively in England and are then imported into the United States in very durable crates. Delivery to your home will be done by professional delivery teams.

More about Vispring

Vispring's story begins in 1899 with British engineer, James Marshall.  When his wife was taken ill in Canada, James hand-made her a supportive mattress with coiled springs wrapped in muslin.  It was a revelation in comfort. But it wasn’t until 1901 that the revolutionary design came to Britain.  Brought over by John Nolon and Frederick James, the pair decided to produce the mattress commercially and incorporated the Marshall Sanitary Mattress Company in 1901.

In 1911, ocean liners were the way to travel.  And it was here that Vispring (as they were now known) found their first major orders.  The bespoke comfort of a Vispring mattress fitted perfectly in the opulent cabins and suites of the world’s finest ships like the Titanic and Olympic.  As the years went by, Vispring’s expert bed makers started to experiment with new mattress fillings.  They introduced more natural materials like horsehair, pure cotton, and Shetland wool, as well as luxury finishes like silk and cashmere.  In 1932, Vispring also created the world’s first pocket-sprung divan – that is known as the ultimate sleeping experience.
