There are lots of ways to experience comfort. In the Original collection, it all starts with an incredible material like fine British wool – it’s the foundation of the mattresses in this collection. Hand-tufted and hand-teased into a cloud-like texture, the wool gives our mattresses an exceptionally comfortable feel to help you drift off, effortlessly and uninterrupted. As you research Vispring mattresses you can read our expert review for more information below:
The Original Collection is one of three collections from Vispring:
The Original Collection of Vispring bespoke mattresses are built with varying amounts of the highest-quality bedding materials. They use horsetail, mohair, cashmere, silk, wool, vanadium steel, bamboo, and vicuña wool in their beds. Each mattress is handmade similarly to a traditional innerspring mattress, but with a much finer eye to detail and style.
The Original Collection is the entry-level group of beds by Vispring. They're the most affordable of all the high-end luxury mattresses made by them. That's not to say they are of a lower quality, quite the opposite. The Original collection has the same premium-quality all-natural materials as the Classic and Luxe Collections.
All three mattresses, the Coronet, the Devonshire, and the Elite, are the same height, 9.8 inches. The difference between the three is how much of the premium luxury materials are built into them.
A supremely functional mattress that provides impeccable support for the body. It's pure natural fillings work in harmony with the signature Vispring core. It creates a soft and absorbent environment that wicks away moisture to ensure a perfect night’s sleep.
The Coronet mattress is the top-end model in the Original collection of mattresses. It has more British fleece wool and all-natural cotton than the other two models. It features a tightly woven Belgian damask quilt that prevents contaminants like skin cells and dust mites from penetrating and collecting in the mattress. This not only maintains a healthier sleep environment, but it also keeps the comfort layers clean to reduce degradation.
Indulgently cozy and supple, the Devonshire is upholstered exclusively in Platinum Certified British fleece wool, including hand-teased Devonshire fleeces. British wool is exceptionally resilient, with a unique ability to regain and maintain its form in the face of repeated use. The result: a sensation of comfort and luxury that will last for years.
Underneath the comfort layers, the Devonshire features a hand-nested calico pocket spring system for support. The coils are arranged in a honeycomb pattern to minimize gaps and provide a more consistent overall comfort. The coils are made from virgin Vanadium steel in a gauge determined by your body type and comfort preferences. This ensures that the coils are perfectly matched for how you sleep, offering the ideal levels of support and give.
The Elite mattress features 100% bonded Platinum Certified British fleece wool and cotton as its primary comfort layers. These comfort layers are super soft and great at reducing pressure, and their all-natural composition also breathes well for better temperature regulation. The comfort layers are secured by hand-tufted felt washers that prevent uneven shifting over the years.
The Vispring Elite is a great value for couples who want a luxury category mattress. Despite its slightly higher selling point, the Vispring Elite comes backed by a 30-year warranty which makes it an excellent investment.
All Vispring bespoke mattresses are covered by a 30-year warranty [PDF] and comfort guarantee.

Vispring's story begins in 1899 with British engineer, James Marshall. When his wife was taken ill in Canada, James hand-made her a supportive mattress with coiled springs wrapped in muslin. It was a revelation in comfort. But it wasn’t until 1901 that the revolutionary design came to Britain. Brought over by John Nolon and Frederick James, the pair decided to produce the mattress commercially and incorporated the Marshall Sanitary Mattress Company in 1901.
In 1911, ocean liners were the way to travel. And it was here that Vispring (as they were now known) found their first major orders. The bespoke comfort of a Vispring mattress fit perfectly in the opulent cabins and suites of the world’s finest ships like the Titanic and Olympic. As the years went by, Vispring’s expert bedmakers started to experiment with new mattress fillings. They introduced more natural materials like horsehair, pure cotton, and Shetland wool, as well as luxury finishes like silk and cashmere. In 1932, Vispring also created the world’s first pocket-sprung divan – which is known as the ultimate sleeping experience.
After decades of innovation and countless bespoke mattresses, Vispring was given the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2012. The award honors any business that has excelled in the fields of international trade, innovation, or sustainable development. Today, Vispring beds are found in 50 countries and stocked by over 500 stores. The perfect night’s sleep is available to more people than ever before.
Of the three collections offered by Vispring, the Original collection is the most affordable. The other collections' mattresses measure more and more as more premium materials are added to each bed progressively. That's not the case with the Original collection, they all measure 9.8".
Vispring builds each mattress with premium British fleece wool in varying amounts. All-natural cotton is added for extra comfort and temperature regulation. Each mattress also has a Belgium Damask quilt top to stop contaminants from getting into the mattress.
If you're set on owning a premium luxury mattress from Vispring an Original Collection model is an excellent choice. You get their ultra-high luxury branding in a bed made by Master Craftspeople for a cost that's far less than any other collection's models. It's also worth mentioning that each mattress is hand-stitched and the spring tension is built custom for you upon ordering.
