Beautyrest Silver - An Overview

Silver mattresses start with a pocketed coil, which helps isolate support to your curves and also minimizes motion transfer from your sleep partner. The Silver Hybrid models have 1,000 coils compared to 815 coils in the others. All Silver beds have a layer of memory foam just above the coils, which is a nice feature. The Hybrid models add memory foam to the top of the bed to give you a contouring feeling that’s more like memory foam. And as in the name, there’s silver material woven into the cover fabric to help draw heat away and keep the mattress fresh. There are 18 Silver models in total, including 5 Silver Hybrids.

More on Beautyrest Silver Mattress Features

beautyrest silver cutaway 1 Your Comfort

Silver incorporates a DualCool Technology Fiber in the quilt of the mattress. This fiber is infused with silver which prevents growth of bacteria, molds and mildews.

There’s a layer of GelTouch Foam that provides contouring and conformability under your body.

2 Keeping you Cool

Under the layer of fabric is DualCool Technology Fiber. It’s infused with silver which has the additional property of conducting heat and moving it away from your body.

3 Proper Support

Silver mattresses feature a Beautyrest Pocketed Coil which is actually 100’s of individually wrapped coils that react and adjust independently to your weight and your body’s contours.

Some Silver models also feature BackCare Support which includes an additional 490 coils located in the center third of the mattress for even better contouring back support.

Delivery Method

Beautyrest Silver mattresses are sold in stores and online. They’re traditional mattresses that are delivered by retailer delivery teams. In-home delivery is free, and so is the removal of your old mattress.

More about Simmons Beautyrest

Simmons Mattress Company has been a leader in mattress manufacturing for over 100 years. Their Beautyrest flagship brand has been a household name for many decades. Many people remember the “bowling ball” commercial where a bowling ball was dropped on a mattress to highlight their pocketed coils (a glass of wine would sit undisturbed when the ball bounced on the other side of the bed.)

In recent years Simmons merged with Serta into the Serta Simmons Bedding Company, making them one of the 2 largest mattress companies in the world (TempurSealy is the other.) Simmons now markets the Black, Platinum and Silver mattress collections.

Being a large manufacturer, Simmons engineers and makes many of its own components in addition to manufacturing. With their longevity and size, they have accumulated a lot of experience and knowledge making mattresses. Simmons makes millions of mattresses each year and they’ve maintained a positive reputation over the long run. While some review sites call out consumer complaints, those sites fail to provide the context that there are tens of millions of customers sleeping on Beautyrest mattresses. And all taken altogether Simmons Beautyrest has a highly positive customer reputation.

Conclusion

Beautyrest Silver mattresses represent a mainstream line of mattresses from a large mattress company. So what that means is these are mid-priced, fairly well-equipped mattresses designed to do a lot of business for Simmons. What you get are decent mid-range mattresses from a large, well-known company. You can’t go wrong with beds like these.  (This review speaks to the 2018 collection which is being replaced by the 2019 collections called the BRS900 and BRS900-C)

What it comes down to is your preference for the features, like for example, the regular pocketed coils or the models with the additional “BackCare Support” featuring more coils for extra contouring and support. In our testing, many of the mattresses rated well and the top 5 we listed here rated extremely well. The Silver Hybrid Sondra Luxury Firm is a ‘Recommend’ for every body size and sleep position tested, as an example. But if you don’t want a bed on the firm side, or want to spend over $1,000, then there are other good choices.

These beds performed well in our testing, have reasonable materials incorporated into their design, and they come from one of the largest, best-known mattress manufacturers in the world. You can safely consider these mattresses with confidence and focus on determining if any of their models fit your situation and needs.
