Beautyrest Black Hybrid X-Class Ultra Plush Mattress Review

The Beautyrest Black X-Class Ultra Plush is the softest, and most expensive ($3,399 for a Queen size) of the X Class models in Simmons' Beautyrest Black collection, of which there are four models.  It comes highly recommended for its pressure-relieving capabilities and its back support structure.  We've reviewed its features and highlights for you here:

Comfort Scale Rating

The Hybrid X-Class Ultra Plush mattress is a soft bed that we rate an 8 on our 10 point Comfort Scale (a 1 is hard, 10 is softest.)  At this comfort rating, you'll need to be certain that you're considering a much softer feeling mattress than most others.  If you feel that you'd need something a bit firmer I'd suggest one of the other X Class models, they come in four different comfort levels.

Pressure Test Results

The X-Class Ultra Plush mattress was tested with petite, average, and large body size people on their side and back sleeping positions to see what kind of support and comfort you can expect. (Learn how we test.) 

This mattress performed exceptionally well during our pressure testing, earning five out of six 'recommended' ratings for its ability to properly align your spine while you sleep while also relieving peak pressure point tension.  The one 'not recommended' rating for the side sleepers with larger-sized bodies came as no surprise as larger people tend to have excess pressure on the more plush mattresses.  How we can tell that there's excess pressure on that body is by the areas of red in the images below.  Yellow areas mean there's an increase in pressure and green areas are where the pressure relief is ideal.  Lighter blue areas show where the support for the body is correct for that body size.

This bed provides excellent lower back and neck support as well as outstanding pressure relief.  You need proper back support so that your spine gets aligned properly.  Pressure relief is just as integral to quality sleep because too much pressure causes you to toss and turn, interrupting your sleep and making you very grumpy the next day.  Please consider our pressure test results if you're thinking of purchasing this model as your next mattress:
