Ashley Sleep Mattress

Ashley Sleep Pros and Cons

Ashley Sleep mattresses are made by Ashley Furniture, the largest furniture manufacturer in the world. They’ve been perfecting their mattresses since they began making beds in 2009 which come in three collections, Ashley Sleep, Sierra Sleep, and Chime.

Note: Ashley Sleep mattresses and Sierra Sleep mattresses are the same models; the only difference is that “Ashley Sleep” models are only available in Ashley Homestores, while the same mattresses sold in other retail stores are called “Sierra Sleep”.

Their beds have a pretty wide range of prices on the lower end for mattresses, which come in various comfort types to meet anyone's preference.

Ashley Sleep Pros and Cons

  • Some extremely low price points
  • Innerspring, Hybrid, or All-Foam options, a comfort type for every preference of mattress type
  • Available in Twin, Full, Queen, California King, and King sizes.
  • Fast and simple shipping to your home
  • Not as long-lasting as more expensive beds
  • All models are bed-in-a-box which can take up to 2 days to fully return to the correct size once opened
  • The thinner the model the less material built into it, questionable quality of the low end
  • Foam smells in bedding can sometimes take a while to dissipate

Type of Construction

Ashley Sleep mattresses come in traditional innerspring, hybrid, and all memory foam.

Ashley Mattress Collections

  1. The Chime collection focuses on value. Memory foam bed-in-a-boxes are the stars of this collection.
  2. Sierra Sleep (same as Ashley Sleep) is a collection of mattresses that feature greater amounts of foam, coils, and fabrics than Chime.

Ashley Mattress Collections

Innerspring - Ashley Sleep innerspring mattresses offer various materials and construction; including layers of latex, memory foam, and polyfoam. Some models have a thin layer of gel memory foam for lumbar support. The main support comes from individually wrapped coils. The Sierra Sleep collection has the most Innerspring models between the two lines, check out our review of that line here.
Hybrid - Similar to traditional innerspring design, Ashley Sleep puts a layer of gel memory foam on top of individually pocketed coils in their hybrid mattresses. The top memory foam layer provides the conforming benefits of gel memory foam. And the innerspring underneath gives pressure relief from individually wrapped pocketed coils.
Memory Foam - No springs in these models. Instead, these mattresses are made with various combinations of gel-infused memory foams and other types of foams. Ashley memory foam mattresses are very conforming and minimize pressure points and partner disturbance. They are also comfortable for most sleeping positions. Check out our Ashley Chime collection review which is almost exclusively memory foam mattresses.

Delivery Method

Ashley Sleep mattresses are compressed and rolled so that they are compact and can be shipped with most, if not all, small parcel carriers. They come in a box that is approximately 20” x 20” with varying heights based on mattress size but range from 40” to 70” tall.

More about Ashley

Ashley Furniture, the parent company of Ashley Mattress, was founded in 1945 as a sales organization in Chicago, Illinois. Since it first opened, Ashley Furniture has steadily grown to the point where they are now the largest manufacturer of furniture in the world!

In 2009 Ashley Furniture Industries launched its Ashley Sleep line of mattresses-in-a-box and in the time since it has grown the line exponentially. It wasn’t until 2015 that Ashley Mattress was able to establish E-commerce as part of its overall business strategy.

Ashley created their Ashley Sleep division a few years ago and so there’s not a long track record to judge their quality by. When evaluating their products we found they offer a reasonable value for the money. Their value is not better or worse than mattresses made by more established brands.

One area they do excel in is the very low-priced mattresses (like $200 to $300) that ship compressed in a box. If you’re looking for basic sleep, Ashley beds are competitive with others in that price range. You can often find an Ashley Mattress sale with most retailers, Ashley is very competitive in the mattress market. And given Ashley is a larger, more established company you’ll gain confidence in using one of their products versus something you’ve never heard of before. There's a good amount of value in many of their mattresses thanks to some premium materials and a lower price point than some competitors' comparable models.

These mattresses are not necessarily going to last ten years plus like a higher-end mattress would, but they'll do a good job with support and comfort for several years.

For inexpensive models, there's no reason to expect a problem with their mattresses. These mattresses are solid choices for back sleepers but not always for heavy side sleepers. If you're looking to purchase an Ashley Sleep bed as your new mattress, you can expect it to be a good bed to sleep on. However, if you’re at the beginning of the mattress research process and are also considering more established brands then those may give you more confidence.
