King vs California King Size Mattresses

Simply put, a California King size mattress is 72 inches wide by 84 inches long (as opposed to 76 by 80 inches which is a standard King), making it the longest of the standard mattress sizes. California King size mattresses are still plenty wide enough to share (a foot wider than a Queen), and intended for tall people who want to ensure their feet don't hang off the end of the bed.

What is the difference between a King size and a California King size mattress?
(Video Transcript)

One of the most common questions that we get here in the sales department is going to be the difference between a king size and a california king size and it is just basic dimensions. A king size which is also known as eastern king to some people is going to be the widest mattress at 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. A california king size is going to be 72 inches wide by 84 long making it the longest possible mattress, but it is 4 inches narrower. If you're 6 feet 2 inch or over, you'll probably going to want the extra length to make sure you're feet aren't hanging off the bed which is going to be the california king size. But if you have kids or dogs that like to sleep with you at night, like i do, you're definitely going to want the extra width of a regular king. Linen compatibility will be one of the concerns with switching sizes if you're going from a regular king up to a california king, you're going to need to get linens because the widths and the lengths are different and vice versa going from a california king down to a regular king.
